Ersta Sköndal Bräcke University College
Ersta Sköndal Bräcke University College is dedicated to studies in the fields of social work, nursing and health care, psychotherapy, theology and church music with an explicit ethical and diaconal orientation.
The University College was founded on January 1st, 1998 through the merger of the undergraduate, post-graduate and research programmes of the Ersta Society for Diaconal Work and The Stora Sköndal Foundation. On October 5th, 2010 Bräcke diakoni became a new part owner.
A distinguishing characteristic of the University College is that it offers courses in which theory is combined with practice, research with studies in the field, and that special attention is given to questions within philosophies of life and world views, professionalization and societal issues.
Stockholm School of Economics
Stockholm School of Economics is one of Europe’s leading business schools, with a unique business-community network. Our research is internationally recognized and many of our researchers are among the leading figures in their respective fields. We conduct research and education in economics, finance, business administration and related disciplines.
One of the research environments is MISUM; a multi-disciplinary research environment at Stockholm School of Economics with about 30 researchers doing research on sustainable finance and markets. We aim to produce knowledge on sustainable markets relevant to several stakeholder groups: academics, corporations, NGOs, governments, international stakeholders and individuals. Yet, the methodologies and approaches are always scientifically based.
The Stockholm Sustainable Finance Centre aims to accelerate and promote the shift in capital investments required to deliver the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and climate targets. The Centre is a unique collaboration between Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI) and Stockholm School of Economics (SSE). This brings together a leading research university in financial markets and economics, and a highly ranked institute working on environmental impact and broader sustainable development issues.
The link to the consortium will be the SSE Art Initiative that explores and develops transboundary knowledge exchange, production, and transfers through art and the humanities. We make art exhibitions and symposiums directed towards researchers, students, and the public. Art has the capacity to generate sensuous experiences, provoke and inspire through artistic tools. In combination with the humanities it enhances our ability of critical thinking, and conveys a further understanding of ourselves and societal context. The SSE Art Initiative acknowledges art as a valid knowledge base in its own right. By actively integrating art and humanities in the academic context of SSE and in the public debate, we aim at making SSE and society more knowledge intensive. To generate a more holistic view of the world around us our projects include collaborations with the most relevant art institutions in Sweden such as Moderna Museet, Tensta Konsthall and Magasin III; academic institutions such as Royal Institute of Art, Royal College of Music, KTH School of Architecture and Södertörn University, and a network of local galleries and artists.
Stockholm University of the Arts
Stockholm University of the Arts (Uniarts) provides education and conducts research in the fields of circus, dance, film, media, opera and performing arts. With our unique composition of education and artistic research, we want to create new opportunities for societal development and knowledge of tomorrow.
Uniarts’s research area is Artistic Practices. This means that all research is carried out from the starting point of artistic practice in some way or other. The four subject specialisations included in the area are Film and Media, Choreography, Opera and Performing Arts, and we have about fifty artistic research and development projects currently under way.
Artistic research comprises a broad spectrum of investigative and reflective practices, methods and concepts with artistic roots in architecture, visual art, circus, dance, design, film, fine art, photography, arts and crafts, choreography, creative writing, media, music, opera, performance and performing arts. New knowledge is created by means of artistic practice being orientated towards research issues and generating concepts, processes, artefacts and performances. The researchers present these for peers (colleagues in their artistic field within the academy and outside it) and a wider public by means of exposition. Exposition constitutes a key concept in artistic research, and involves various forms of production, viewing, interpretation, presentation and documentation, which may include the whole of the artistic artefact or event, but can also be supplemented by other types of communication. The outcome is presented on its own terms. The encounter with the exposition of the research therefore provides a key to understanding its aesthetic, epistemological, ethical, political and social content.
Swedish Defence University
The Swedish Defence University (SEDU) aims to be an instrument for change in the fields of Defence and Security Policy. Through the development of new knowledge and by offering education and training, we make an active contribution to shape the future of defence.
SEDU is Sweden’s leading resource in, and first choice for, education, training and research in the management of crisis, war and periods of tension in the leadership of both civil and military agencies. SEDU is an accredited institution for academic education for military and civilian students and researchers where different experiences, approaches and traditions come together.
Research at The Swedish Defence University concentrates on specially selected subject areas. Two of these – War Studies and Systems Science for Defence and Security – are unique to the University. The others, which can be described as specialities within areas that already exist in Swedish academia, are: International Operational Law, Leadership, Command and Control Science, Military History, Political Science – Security Policy and Strategy, Political Science – Crisis Management and International Cooperation.
There are also two research centres at the college – Crismart, the National Centre for Crisis Management Studies and Cats, the Centre for Asymmetric Threat Studies.
All research projects are closely linked to the education and training at the University and focus on areas which are not the subject of research at other colleges, universities and research institutions in Sweden.
Södertörn University
Södertörn University is a Higher Education Institution in Stockholm that educates, researches and collaborates for a sustainable social development. The campus area is located in Flemingsberg, 19 minutes by commuter train from Stockholm Central.
Education and research are conducted in the humanities, social sciences, technology and natural sciences. We also offer police training and teacher training with an intercultural profile. Much of the research deals with issues related to the Baltic Sea and Eastern Europe area and is often coordinated within the Center for Baltic and East European Studies (CBEES).
Södertörn University was established in 1996. It was primarily about getting more people from study-unfriendly environments in southern Stockholm to be attracted to higher studies. To take up the challenge, the university was placed in a well-chosen location, Flemingsberg, just south of Stockholm. Our research strives for a high social and contemporary relevance and impact, in association with an active and critical approach to the past. The research at the university generally extends to the world, even in subjects that traditionally study their own national culture and history. An important key word is multidisciplinary.
University College Stockholm
The University College Stockholm (EHS) offers programmes at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in both Theology and Human Rights. EHS offers doctoral programmes in Systematic Theology, Biblical Studies, and soon in Practical Theology as well. Doctoral studies can be conducted in English, while other courses are offered in English to varying degrees. EHS is the major provider of religious and human rights education in the Stockholm region.
EHS gives training to some 600-700 students annually, in both full-time and part-time courses. The School welcomes students from a variety of denominational and non-denominational backgrounds, in a climate of academic rigour, international contact, and challenging issues.
A wide network of international academic and other institutional contacts provides a resource-base for international exchanges for students and professors. We also have a flow of international guests, students as well as visiting scholars. University College Stockholm is a non-governmental university college owned by the Uniting Church in Sweden.
