The war in Ukraine has been the first where images and videos of death, suffering and resilience have been so readily and quickly available, experienced through what has been described as the \u2018war feed\u2019. At the same time, artificially generated images and videos of conflicts pose further challenges concerning the reliability of information shared online, pushing the boundaries of authenticity and trust in the facts of the conflict. The project employs the concept of media witnessing to illustrate how these dynamics shape the ways the war is experienced. Specifically, it asks how trust and authenticity are negotiated by social media users and content creators that talk about the war on social media, as well as how visual representations of the war in Ukraine circulating on social media platforms shape perceptions of authenticity, emotional engagement, and political understandings of the conflict.
