Getting to Hotel Dubrovnik from Zagreb Franjo Tuđman Airport

  • Taxi: Taxis are available directly outside the arrivals terminal. The ride to the city centre and Ban Jelačić Square takes approximately 25-30 minutes, depending on traffic. Fares vary based on time and distance. Most taxis accept both cash (EUR) and cards. Several ride-hailing services operate in Zagreb, including Uber and Bolt, which can be conveniently booked via mobile apps directly from the airport.
  • Airport Shuttle Bus (Pleso transportation): The airport shuttle bus runs regularly between the airport and Autobusni kolodvor Zagreb (Zagreb Bus Terminal). Travel time is 30-40 minutes. From there, you can take a short taxi ride or use public transport to the city center (tram lines 4 or 6). The hotel is about 10-15 minutes on foot from the Ban Jelačić Square.
  • By Car: The airport is well connected to the city via the A3 motorway. The drive to central Zagreb takes 20-30 minutes. Public parking garages are available throughout the city center.

Getting to Hotel Dubrovnik from Zagreb Train Station (Zagreb Glavni kolodvor)

  • By Tram (recommended): The simplest and fastest option is by tram. From the station square, take tram line 6 (direction Črnomerec) or tram line 13 and get off at Ban Jelačić Square. The journey takes 5-7 minutes, and the hotel is just a short walk from the stop.
  • Taxi or Ride-hailing: Taxis are readily available outside the station. The ride to the hotel takes approximately 5 minutes. In addition, app-based services such as Uber and Bolt operate throughout Zagreb and can be conveniently booked via mobile apps.

By Tram (recommended)

Zagreb’s tram system, operated by Zagrebački električni tramvaj (ZET), is the fastest and most practical way to move around the city. Trams run frequently (every few minutes during the day) and connect all major areas, including Zagreb Glavni kolodvor (Zagreb Train Station) and Autobusni kolodvor Zagreb (Zagreb Bus Terminal), the city centre, and residential districts.

Tickets can be purchased at kiosks (Tisak/iNovine), ZET sales points, via the Moj ZET mobile app, or directly from the driver (slightly higher price). Remember to validate your ticket when boarding.

On Foot (also recommended)

The central area around Ban Jelačić Square, the Upper Town (Gradec), and the Lower Town parks is very walkable. Many attractions, cafés, museums, and hotels are within 10-15 minutes’ walking distance, making walking a pleasant and practical option.

Taxi or Ride-hailing

Taxis are widely available throughout the city and at main transport hubs. App-based services such as Uber and Bolt operate reliably and are often affordable. Most city-centre rides take 5-10 minutes.

By Bus

Buses complement the tram network and serve areas not covered by tram lines. The main bus terminal is Zagreb Bus Terminal, with connections to other Croatian cities and neighbouring countries.

Zagreb

The Postdigital Backlash Conference will take place in Zagreb, the capital and largest city of Croatia. Home to nearly a quarter of the country’s population, Zagreb has long served as a meeting point for ideas, people, and perspectives, making it an inspiring setting for critical dialogue, collaboration, and exchange.

Nestled between the forested slopes of Medvednica and the banks of the Sava River, the city unfolds in two complementary parts. The historic Upper Town (Gornji Grad) invites visitors to wander through medieval streets, intimate squares, and centuries-old landmarks such as St. Mark’s Church and the Lotrščak Tower, offering panoramic views over the red rooftops below. In contrast, the Lower Town (Donji Grad) reflects Zagreb’s elegant modern identity, with grand Austro-Hungarian architecture, theatres, museums, and lively public spaces. Cultural icons such as the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb, along with vibrant public spaces like Ban Jelačić Square and Zrinjevac Park, frame the city’s everyday life, where locals gather, stroll, and experience Zagreb’s distinctive urban atmosphere.

Exploring Croatia

For those wishing to extend their stay, Zagreb serves as an ideal gateway to exploring the wider region and the remarkable diversity of Croatia.

Just 30 minutes from Zagreb, the picturesque town of Samobor charms visitors with its baroque streets, relaxed cafés, and famous local pastries. History enthusiasts may explore Trakošćan Castle, about 1-1.5 hours away, set among forests and lakes in the rolling hills of Hrvatsko Zagorje, a region also known for vineyards, thermal spas, and gentle hiking trails. Nature lovers can visit the cascading waterfalls and crystal-clear lakes of Plitvice Lakes National Park, located approximately 2-2.5 hours by car or bus, offering scenic trails and UNESCO-protected natural beauty.

To visit the coast, the sparkling Adriatic Sea is only a few hours away. The seaside city of Rijeka is reachable in around 2 hours, while Pula and the Istrian peninsula are about 3 hours away. Further south, the historic Mediterranean charm of Zadar can be reached in 3-3.5 hours, the vibrant waterfront and ancient Roman heritage of Split in around 4-5 hours, and the iconic walled city of Dubrovnik, often called the “Pearl of the Adriatic”, in 6-7 hours by car or a short domestic flight.
